Book NowLASIK is the world's most common form of vision correction surgery, and here at Mann Eye Institute, we've taken this science and made it into an art. It involves sophisticated laser technology - two different lasers to be exact (you'll learn more about what they do below) - in order to treat the three most common vision issues:
If you’re wearing glasses and/or contacts, and you fall into one (maybe two) of these categories, then LASIK may be the right choice for you. Once upon a time, LASIK involved blades – and some places still use blades, so be on the lookout! At Mann Eye Institute, that’s NOT the case – our LASIK is all laser, all the time.
Work: that’s what we want LASIK to do, right? Here’s how it all goes down: LASIK works by changing the shape of your cornea, which in turn changes the way images focus on your retina. It’s technically a two-step process: creating a small flap on the cornea and then reshaping the corneal surface, all in just a few minutes. To help you better understand, see the four pictures below.
Laser Vision Correction is the most popular elective procedure in the world.
The good news is that it probably is (hooray!), but the only way to know for sure is by having a LASIK consultation. There is perhaps nothing more important in the LASIK process than determining if the procedure is, in fact, right for you. If you are familiar with someone who has not had a good result, the problems typically stem from poor judgment of candidacy. Here’s what to expect during your FREE LASIK consultation, which is basically a thorough, high-tech eye exam. Below is a list of the different tests and scans you will have at your consultation (we did say thorough, right?):
Once the team has given your eyes the green light, you’ll learn everything you want about LASIK, meet your surgeon and take your next step toward better vision!
When we talk to people during their free LASIK consultation, a common assumption is that some degree of recovery time is needed after having LASIK. We get many questions about it, and many go like this:
And here is what we say to that.
Modern LASIK has very little downtime, and most of our patients drive themselves to their post-op appointment the next day!
In fact, most of our LASIK patients report excellent vision within 24 hours of their surgery! Now, that’s exciting! Most people are able to return to work and many normal activities the very next day. You will have a follow-up appointment at Mann Eye Institute the day after your procedure for a quick post-op check. Any issues or questions you have will be addressed at that time.
Note: Although many of our patients wake up the next day with 20/20 vision, it is normal for some patients (those who have stronger prescriptions) to take a little more time for their eyes to adjust and heal completely. And as always, everyone is different, so recovery times and results may vary.
Here at Mann Eye Institute, we believe that quality eye care should be available to everyone. That’s why we work really hard to make LASIK affordable for you. So if cost is what scares you, don’t let it. Come talk to us! We accept cash, cashier’s checks, money orders, credit cards and pre-approved credit plans. If you decide to finance your procedure (many do!), we work with several financial institutions that offer flexible payment options.
You also have to consider how much you could actually save (yes, save!) by having LASIK. Think of all the frames, contacts, prescription lenses, solution and cases you will use in the future. Use our nifty LASIK Savings Calculator to see how much you could save!
We have a great financing option for everyone!
On qualifying purchases of $200 or more made [after discount] with your CareCredit credit card account at enrolled provider locations [and select retailers] in the CareCredit Network. Interest will be charged to your account from the purchase date if the promotional purchase is not paid in full within the promotional period. Minimum Monthly Payments required. Required monthly payments may or may not pay off purchase before the end of the promotional period.
Not sure if you’ll be approved for financing? Mann Eye Institute is making LASIK more affordable than ever with new Guaranteed Approval Financing through Healthcare Finance Direct.
When considering any surgery, it is advisable to do your research on the topic and prepare yourself for the evaluation. If you’re considering LASIK, ask friends and family who’ve had the procedure. Consult reputable online resources. Research surgeons and laser technology. Understand the pros and cons of having eye surgery. Then book your consultation with the experts: Mann Eye Institute.
LASIK is a safe and effective outpatient procedure that has been performed on millions of patients and eyes over the last 25 years. Its safety, quality and side effect profile has improved as the technology has advanced over the years. And having LASIK doesn’t preclude you from other options for eye surgery in the future.
Several studies have been conducted over the life of the procedure, and in recent years, it has been proven that having laser vision correction is less risky than even wearing contact lenses as directed. Also, over 90% of eye surgeons who perform the procedure would highly recommend it to friends and family who are candidates. Finally, over 100% of our LASIK eye surgeons have had this procedure themselves! Know the facts about LASIK. Trust Mann Eye Institute. We are here to help you See Life Better.
Life is made up of tiny moments, and our goal at Mann Eye Institute is for you to enjoy every single one of them with the clear vision you deserve. Helping Texans See Life Better today and every day is our bedrock and the foundation on which we have built the Mann Eye legacy.
There’s a lot of people who offer LASIK, so we understand choosing where to go for yours can be a tough decision. It’s important to know that not all LASIK is created equal. And, just as you should know what each place out there offers, you should also pay attention to what they don’t.
At your free consultation, you get a price for your customized procedure, and that’s the way it stays. No gimmicks or unwanted surprises later. We also offer affordable financing (ask us about our new Guaranteed Approval Financing!) and accept most vision plans which qualify you for additional savings. High five!
When considering LASIK, consider who has your best interest in mind. Not their own.
At Mann Eye Institute, we’ve been serving generations of Texans Since 1977 and we’d be honored to serve you and your family, too. Trust Mann Eye Institute to help you See Life Better.
Go ahead. Let out that sigh of relief. It’s all laser, all the time. You’re welcome.
We don’t offer old technology to save ourselves a few bucks. The latest technology is important to your results so it’s important to us.
You’ve seen it… they offer you a ridiculously low starting price, only to nickel and dime you later. We’ve all been there. We value our patients too much to be anything other than up-front.
Our accomplished eye surgeons are among the most experienced in the country and are always at the forefront of advances in the field of vision correction. Meet the LASIK dream team:
LASIK has been around long enough that it’s easy to think that it’s a one-size-fits-all procedure, and that it’s the same no matter where you go. The truth is, LASIK has had some major upgrades over the years and you’d be doing yourself a disservice to get anything less than the best (these are your eyes we’re talking about!)
So what is it that makes LASIK at Mann Eye Institute extra special? The doctors? Yes. The experience? Yes. And the technology, specifically when it comes to Contoura and Iris Registration.
All modern LASIK systems will take imaging of your eye, but Contoura measures 22,000 points (whoa!) on your eye (compared to around 200 for most other imaging systems).
That degree of customization is what allows for the amazing outcomes that Mann Eye is known for.
In the past, doctors have used small marks to keep track of the small rotation caused by going from a seated to lying position, but Iris Registration uses a picture of your iris to remove any human error from the equation.
The better the alignment of the laser treatment, the higher the quality of the surgical result.
Don’t be fooled into thinking all LASIK is the same. Mann Eye can show you what truly Advanced LASIK can do for you.
schedule your free consultationHere are some of the most frequently asked questions we hear from people interested in LASIK. If you have a question that is not covered here call us at 800-MY-VISION (698-4746)! We’re happy to help.
This is one of the top questions we hear. In short, NO! Most of our patients describe the sensation during LASIK as a slight pressure. Before your procedure begins, your Mann Eye Institute surgeon will apply numbing drops (no injections, we promise!). You may also be given oral relaxation medication beforehand. Most of our LASIK patients are back to their regular routines the next day.
You’re going to love this. LASIK only takes about 10 minutes to complete both eyes. You’ll be up and back at it in no time!
This is another common concern. But don’t worry, we have you covered. The numbing drops help take away the urge to blink and any blinking is prevented by an instrument called a lid speculum, which gently holds back your upper and lower eyelids. It will be put into place after you receive your numbing drops.
Yes, you will be able to see throughout the entire procedure. That said, you will experience varying degrees of blurred vision as your Mann Eye Institute surgeon is working. Don’t worry! This is perfectly normal.
Patients who are extremely nearsighted might take a little longer to recover than individuals who are only slightly nearsighted. Although many of our patients wake up the next day with 20/20 vision, it is normal for some patients (those who have stronger prescriptions) to take a little more time for their eyes to adjust and heal completely.
The majority of our LASIK patients report excellent vision within 24 hours of their surgery! Most are able to return to work and many normal activities the next day. You will have a follow-up appointment at Mann Eye Institute the day after your procedure for a quick post-op check. Any issues or questions you have will be addressed at that time.
YES! Since it received FDA approval in the United States in 1995, LASIK has seen many advances and refinements. Today, we use LASIK to successfully treat patients with nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and even astigmatism. Schedule your FREE LASIK screening to see if you’re a candidate.
As with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks. But please know that LASIK complications are extremely rare. During your free screening, our Mann Eye Institute counseling team will explain any risks associated with your procedure, so you can make an informed decision.
This is a common misconception. No, it doesn’t. LASIK creates a permanent change to the cornea, so the treatment will not fade over time. However as the eye ages, vision problems that are unrelated to the corneal surface can still occur, namely presbyopia (over-40 vision) and cataracts. When we assess your vision at Mann Eye Institute, we will determine which of our many advanced vision-correcting procedures is right for you.
Great question. Because LASIK is considered an elective surgery, most insurance companies will not cover the procedure. But the majority of vision plans offer some type of discount and some even offer a discount on top of a current promotion. If you’re not sure, just come see us! Our financing team is more than happy to review your employer’s insurance policy to see if a portion of your LASIK procedure may be covered or if there is a discount available. We also work to help our patients establish a comfortable payment plan to fit nearly any budget.
Since the eyes do not fully stabilize until a person is in their late teens or early 20s, it is required that Mann Eye Institute patients be at least 18 years old. Patients are also required to have a steady eye prescription that hasn’t changed for over a year.
How would you like to See Life Better…without the restrictions and hassles of glasses and contacts… complete with the freedom to go out and do you – whatever that looks like to you?
Sounds inviting, doesn’t it?
LASIK at Mann Eye Institute offers that kind of freedom. And this is your invitation. Step into the visual freedom you deserve. Say yes to life-changing LASIK.
