LASIK is the world’s most common form of vision correction surgery, and here at Mann Eye Institute, we’ve taken this science and made it into an art. This procedure is generally safe, effective and has very few side effects.
Here’s how it all goes down: LASIK works by changing the shape of your cornea, which in turn changes the way images focus on your retina. It’s technically a two-step process: creating a small flap on the cornea and then reshaping the corneal surface, all in just a few minutes.
The good news is that it probably is, but the only way to know for sure is by having a LASIK consultation. There is perhaps nothing more important in the LASIK process than determining if the procedure is, in fact, right for you.

Dr. Mann is board-certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Over the years, he has participated in many FDA clinical studies, lectured on results, and developed new techniques and products to improve the surgical outcomes of his patients.
Dr. Mann pioneered laser vision correction (LASIK) surgery with Ralph Berkeley, MD, in the early 1990s. Today LASIK is the most common vision correction procedure performed worldwide. Dr. Mann has personally performed over 40,000 LASIK cases and 50,000 Cataract cases. His philosophy of patient care is reflected throughout the entire practice.
Dr. Paul Mann specializes in refractive surgery. He has been performing blade-free LASIK since 2004, and he has performed more than 40,000 refractive procedures. A Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Mann is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Brian D. Wright, MD, is member of the Mann Eye Institute Katy medical and surgical team, specializing in Blade-Free LASIK, Premium IOL procedures, implantable contact lenses and a variety of leading edge eye care procedures. Dr. Wright is a board certified ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and a member of the Houston Ophthalmology Society.
Dr. Ashley Brundrett specializes in Corneal, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery. Her specialty includes laser vision correction (LASIK), cataracts, treatments and procedures for corneal disease, and dry eye as well as evaluation for diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.
Jennifer Melton, MD, specializes in the treatment of corneal disease and performs advanced Corneal, Cataract and Refractive surgery procedures, as well as Comprehensive Ophthalmology. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. David Tremblay specializes in advanced Corneal, Cataract and Refractive surgery procedures, as well as the diagnosis and care of patients with Diabetes, Macular Degeneration, Dry Eye and Glaucoma. Dr. Tremblay is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and brings a wealth of experience and vision care services to our patients.
Dr. Hacopian is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in Advanced LASIK, Refractive Lens Exchange and complete eye care. He is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
LASIK has been around long enough that it’s easy to think that it’s a one-size-fits-all procedure, and that it’s the same no matter where you go. The truth is, LASIK has had some major upgrades over the years and you’d be doing yourself a disservice to get anything less than the best. After all, these are your eyes we’re talking about!

In the past, doctors have used small marks to keep track of the small rotation caused by going from a seated to lying position, but Iris Registration uses a picture of your iris to remove any human error from the equation. The better the alignment of the laser treatment, the higher the quality of the surgical result.
