The Rising Epidemic: Pediatric Myopia on the Surge
Mann Eye Institute is a leader in the management of Myopic Progression (a condition where the nearsightedness gets worse year over year). Many parents are concerned about children becoming more nearsighted as they are increasingly using more digital devices for both instructional and leisure time. The good news is, myopic progression can be treated, and in many cases, prevented.
Ortho-k Lenses Show Promise in Decreasing Myopia Progression in Children
Orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses are gas permeable lenses. Research suggests orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses slow axial elongation thereby decreasing myopia progression by temporarily reshaping the cornea, flattening the central cornea and steepening the mid-periphery. Worn overnight, these lenses can correct refractive error offering clear vision throughout the day. One such ortho-k lens, the Abiliti™ Overnight Lens, was FDA approved for the management of myopia.
