From generous donations to a variety of causes to active participation in medical mission trips to underserved areas of the world, we here at Mann Eye Institute value serving the communities we love and live in.
“Service has always been a part of our core mission here at Mann Eye Institute. Treating every person with respect, honor, dignity and gratitude is just part of the culture of Mann Eye Institute. And we are always looking for ways to practice what we preach!”
– Dr. Mike Mann
And this summer is no different. In honor of the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey that had lasting, devastating effects, we’re launching our three-part Looking Forward, Giving Back initiative in Houston and Austin.
Fighting Hunger, One Meal at a Time
Day of Giving with the Houston Food Bank
During the school year, more than 20 million American children receive free or reduced-priced meals during the school day, according to FeedingAmerica.org. The summer months can leave many families struggling to make sure every family member has enough to eat on a daily basis. Food banks – especially those in larger cities like Houston – have a higher need for donations and volunteers during the months when school is not in session.
The team at Mann Eye Institute is doing its part this summer to give back to the local community it serves every day. On Saturday, July 21, a team of volunteers from our Mann Eye family will serve at the Houston Food Bank all morning – making meals, sorting donations, assembling grocery bags full of staple food and spending time with the families who come in to receive the food bank’s services.
More for the Ones Who Always Do More
Honoring Everyday Heroes with Our Free LASIK Giveaway
In addition to this planned day of outreach, Mann Eye Institute is setting aside time this summer to recognize heroes of all kinds for heroic acts of service to the local communities of Houston and Austin. We encourage residents to nominate their own local hero who deserves to See Life Better. After nominations are in, we’ll feature the stories on the contest page, where people can vote for their favorite to determine five finalists, and one lucky local hero will receive FREE LASIK at Mann Eye Institute.
Have someone in mind? Nominate them here.

Supporting Students in Need by Donating School Supplies to Local Organizations
If you go into a retail store during July or August, you’re very aware that it’s back-to-school season – parents and children shuffling around with shopping carts full of pencils, paper and more. But, for many children, their families simply cannot afford the supplies they need.
That’s why we’re working with the Salvation Army in Austin and the YMCA in Houston to provide the necessary items for students of all ages to start the school year off with the same excitement and readiness as all other children.
Here’s how you can help:
For every LASIK procedure performed in July or August, we will donate a bundle of school supplies to either the Salvation Army or YMCA.
Are you ready to See Life Better? Then it’s time to get LASIK and give back.
