The FS200 Femtosecond Laser

The FS200 Femtosecond Laser, a key player in the WaveLight System, is used in step one of the LASIK procedure at Mann Eye Institute. This advanced laser creates the corneal flap with enhanced speed and accuracy for precise, reproducible results.

Treatment time with the FS200 is greatly reduced when compared to other femtosecond lasers, with an average treatment time lasting only seconds! 

Why is speed important? The faster the flap is created, the less potential exists for dehydration of the cornea, which in turn reduces the risk of swelling and inflammation. It can also help speed up the healing process and lead to quicker recovery times.

And best of all? In addition, the FS200 uses something called flap shift pupil detection (this basically means we can precisely match your flap shape to your treatment area), giving you a very precise, customized experience.

The EX500 Excimer Laser

The EX500 Excimer Laser is an exciting new and advanced technology that offers the next level of precision, accuracy and speed. Paired with the FS200 Femtosecond Laser, as part of our advanced WaveLight Refractive Surgery Suite, treatment with the EX500 represents a quantum leap in LASIK Surgery.

Fast, Accurate & Customized

One of the many advantages of the new EX500 is its speed. The average time it takes to reshape the corneal surface is approximately 1.4 seconds per diopter, a remarkably quick process that benefits patients in many ways. Precision Tracking

Today’s excimer lasers incorporate high-tech infrared eye trackers to help eliminate any concern about involuntary movements of the eye or any issues with patient “fixation” fatigue. The ability to monitor eye movements is critical to correct placement of the laser pulse. Innovative engineering on the EX500 takes sensitivity to eye movements to the next level.

The EX500 multi-dimensional eye tracker is synchronized at 500 Hz, 10 times faster than the human eye. The tracker continually checks the position of the eye and automatically re-adjusts the timing of the laser as needed to ensure perfect placement of each laser pulse.

Widest Treatment Range Possible

For patients who were previously not a candidate for LASIK, the new EX500 offers yet another benefit. It has the widest treatment range possible for patients with the most common vision errors – hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.

Iris Registration

If there’s one thing Mann Eye Institute patients can feel confident about, it’s that Mann Eye Institute cares. Iris Registration is just another example of our commitment to bringing the best of the best to our valued patients.

What is Iris Registration (IR)?

The Iris Registration System (IR), is the latest step in vision correction technology. The system ensures the best alignment of the laser treatment pattern possible.

Why is this important?

The eye can rotate when a person changes from a seated to the lying position. This is often a fairly small amount of true rotation but it can be clinically significant when applying a laser vision correction application.

With other excimer lasers, registration marks are applied to the eye by the surgeon before surgery and then compensated for under the laser manually. If this is not performed perfectly, it could result in misalignment of the laser treatment pattern.

The Iris Registration system recognizes and corrects any misalignment in the laser treatment pattern. The better the alignment of the laser treatment, the higher quality of the surgical result.
